La Barre, in Bugey, district of Brégnier (Ain). In 1374, the fief and the castle were owned by Guillaume de Cordon, who paid homage to Louis de Savoie, comte de Vaud for it. The seigneury of La Barre remained with the Cordon until 1435, when the Beaumont acquired it. Ten years later it passed on to the Bonivard, and, in 1488 to the la Forest, through the marriage of Antoine de la Forest with Claire de Bonivard. There is not much left of the medieval castle surrounded with towers. During the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries, the la Forest converted La Barre into a pleasant residence, with nice gardens. However the castle still had a feudal aspect, but sold by the la Forest during the eighteenth century, it is now mainly ruined, and is prosaically inhabited. During the seventeenth century the seigneury was very important and the justice rights covered several dependent fiefs. It gave its name to a branch of the la Forest family, which was extinct in 1745
